Would you sell your soul for a Dr. Pepper?
I almost did! But before I talk about that, first things first! We had our talent show this week and performed "Footloose" and it went great/horribly, because I totally fell over and all the members think I'm a crazy fool. But a good crazy fool. Right? So I shall slowly gain their trust. Hopefully?
Also, ONCE AGAIN, the Lord is incredible. Let's just say that my entire misison, I've struggle with teaching. Teaching is HARD. And it's even harder having to team teach. Most of you know that I'm HORRIBLE at group projects/playing on teams/playing well with others. So it's been a year-long challenge, since the beginning of my mission, trying to figure out how to teach with a companion and teach well.
This week, some problems came to a head... and I realized that I had to change. I realized that, as a general rule, I talk way too much in lessons. And I often talk over my companion/don't let them talk. The more I thought about it, the more frustrated I got. Why did I have to be like this? Why can't I just be a great teacher, why do I have to continue to struggle?
Then came a distinct impression: the mission was a time for the Lord to work off my rough edges and make me something greater. Yes, these lessons are hard to learn... my ego suffers and sometimes I feel really stupid, because I haven't learned anything in the last year. But I have weaknesses so they can become strengths. And the Lord is using this year and a half to polish me. Or Italian me. One or the other.
Okay, I'm out of time. But Dr. Pepper! A friend of one of our members showed interest in meeting with us a couple times. We were really excited until we saw that he came prepared with a whole stack of research he'd done on the internet about our church... all the anti-Mormon arguments you can think of (shoutout to Ian -- because of our discussions, I was mostly familiar with all of the arguments). This friend is pretty convinced, after a week of research on the internet, that we are a cult and that he needs to rescue all of us from Mormonism. We assured him that we were intelligent human beings and have studied a lot of these topics and would be happy to help him figure out more himself. Hopefully he accepts. BUT he had heard that I loved Dr. Pepper and that I hadn't had it since coming to Italy... so he had gone out of his way to buy me TWO CANS of DP! And oh what joy this sentence gives.
I accepted the Dr. Pepper... on the condition that he accept a Book of Mormon and try reading it. Hmmm... we shall see. I like to think that this story is just a modern reenactment of Zeezrom. Except that I would never deny Christ. Not even for Dr. Pepper.
Okay, that's all! Out of time! Photos!
love you
